Cacao is a plant from the tropical rainforest of the Amazon and it’s what chocolate is made from. It has been used for thousands of years by the Olmecs, Aztecs, and Mayans used for ceremonial and medicinal purposes.
Modern society is used to sweet chocolate candy, with tons of added sugar. However, when we have cacao in its purest form, it is considered a ‘super food’ and retains all of its healing benefits, living enzymes, and medicinal properties. Some healing benefits include anandamide (which is considered the ‘bliss molecule’ and creates a feeling of euphoria), antioxidants (it has more antioxidants than blueberries), magnesium and iron.
Cacao is called a ‘heart opener’ in which you can feel yourself open up, allowing space for self-love, compassion, and forgiveness. It allows for more creativity, focus, and motivation. Additionally, it can also help to create a greater connection with body and spirit.
*Disclaimer: It is not recommended to consume cacao if actively taking any antidepressants, have serious heart conditions, high blood pressure or epilepsy. You may or may not experience a headache or laxative effects from the cacao after the ceremony.
